Care in Midstream Visitations and Outings
Effective 9 August 2021

When a resident wishes to go on an outing, the presumption should be that these occur in line with general population COVID-19 restrictions/permissions relevant to the local area.

The exception is where there is clear evidence justifying a more restrictive approach, and it is considered a necessary and proportionate course of action to protect the health and safety of other residents in the care home when balanced against the individual circumstances of the resident in question and the benefits which leaving the home may have for them.

Our residents remain a vulnerable population, and communal living arrangements present additional risks. Therefore, general principles and actions to prevent COVID-19 infection and spread remain key both inside and outside of the care home, and everyone has a crucial part in rigorously sustaining these.

A Wonderful Lifestyle .

Care in Midstream’s primary focus is the well-being of our residents. Many of our residents have moved to Care in Midstream from Retire @ Midstream, and they have expressed their desire to remain part of that community. Care in Midstream proudly launched a new frail care facility in the newly renovated wing that forms part of the Retire @ Midstream main building. The premises are customised to provide a homely, yet exclusive, living environment.

Our residents will have access to:

  • Restaurant – perfect for family visits
  • Hair salon – just a few steps from their front door
  • Library – with additional activities and media centre
  • Chemist – located in the building
  • Doctors, dentists, physiotherapists, paramedics – on the premises
  • Beautiful gardens
  • All activities hosted by Retire @ Midstream

The Care in Midstream Assisted Living facility is based at 20 Mt Quary Road, where residents enjoy a homely environment.

Person-centred Care.

Care in Midstream endorses person-centred care as part of a holistic approach to caring for our residents. Person-centred care focuses on an individual’s relationships, life experiences, abilities, and preferences, and represents innovation within the care environment. For our residents, Care in Midstream is home – not a home away from home, but their permanent home – furnished with their personal belongings, and each person can follow their unique routine.

Unique To Midstream.

Care in Midstream is located within Midstream – a secure gated community, conveniently accessible for families living in the Centurion, Midrand, Sandton and Pretoria areas. Midstream is protected by a multiple-layer security approach which includes secure neighbourhoods, access control and identification, internal security patrols as well as security measures in all buildings. Midstream offers uniquely integrated medical care – the area is host to the Midstream Mediclinic Hospital, Care@Midstream Sub-Acute Rehabilitation centre and the practices of many highly regarded doctors and specialists. Paramedics provide emergency response 24/7.

Care in Midstream opened March 2018. This is what our customers say:

I have been involved with Retire@Midstream and the Frail Care facility for the last seven years. My mother was one of the very first residents in the new Care in Midstream facility in Mt. Quray Street, Midstream – and relocated from her Retire@Midstream bachelor’s unit in March 2018 when they opened their doors.

I would have gone to the ends of the earth to keep my mother in this magnificent facility – from the beautiful and well-designed building, the trouble taken to beautify the gardens and most of all the excellent level of care. It has never been a “hospital-like” environment, and the staff adopt their residents as one of their own. It was home for Mom, and I never had to worry about her. The quality of the caring – medical and otherwise cannot be found anywhere else (believe me, I looked) as I live in Johannesburg and Midstream was not exactly close by. My mother has since passed away, but I still drive through once a week to spend some quality time with my adopted family in both the residents and the staff – from Sr. Ida Britz in Nursing Management, the support staff in marketing, accounts and reception – the carers, sisters and cleaning and kitchen staff. Friendly, helpful, loving, caring and welcoming. Thank you again my Care in Midstream family for your compassion and care all-round.

So grateful my mom is one of your lucky residents.

Many thanks for your love and care of Irene. From the first day that she was accepted in the dementia unit, until her death in the Frail Care Centre, her care was exceptional. Thank you for the friendliness, love and the beautiful way you took care of her till the end.

These people are absolutely fantastic!!!! If you have safety, good loving care in mind, its the place to go.

It means a lot to me that you put so much effort into making sure that there are regular activities.

We all thoroughly enjoyed the braai,  as well as the very sweet programme presented by the little ones. So adorable!!

I just want the caregivers to know that we really appreciate what they do for our mom.
